Consider the Gospel

What is God like?

So what does the Bible say about God? Lots! But we will limit ourselves to three of His fundamental characteristics. These are crucial to grasp before we can understand and appreciate the Gospel clearly.

God is Holy

When God revealed Himself to Moses, He repeatedly (ex. Leviticus 11:44,45; 19:2; 20:7) declared, "...be holy, because I am holy." This reveals the kind of God that He is. He is Holy. And He is that to the very core of His being. But what does it mean to be holy? Jesus used a helpful synonym when he said in Matthew 5:48, 'Be perfect therefore as your heavenly father is perfect.' To be Holy is to be morally perfect. That is no sin, selfishness or wrong-doing. That defines who God is, what He does, and what He finds acceptable.
